Meet Diovanti!
Hi! I’m Silvia “Diovanti” Serrano, and I’m so glad you’re here.
I was born and raised en los barrios of Los Angeles, California, and my journey has taken me from the barrio to academia and through many places and experiences in between. I earned my bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland, College Park, and later headed down South to Auburn University for my master’s degree. Through it all, becoming a therapist has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember.
Part of that dream began with my own experience in therapy. When I was younger, I worked with a Latina therapist who completely changed what therapy meant to me. I had grown up with the message that therapy was only for people who were “crazy,” but she showed me that it could be a space for healing, understanding, connection, and growth. Having someone who understood parts of my cultural experience showed me how meaningful it can be to have someone walk alongside you through life’s challenges—and that experience continues to shape the therapist I strive to be today.
I know starting therapy can feel awkward or intimidating. Maybe you know exactly what you want to talk about, or maybe you just know something feels off. You don’t need to have the perfect words or arrive with everything figured out. Show up as you are, and we can figure it out together. My goal is to create a space that feels warm, authentic, collaborative, and human—where you can explore relationships, identity, family, stress, life transitions, or whatever else you’re carrying without feeling like you have to perform or have it all together.
Spanish was my first language, although somewhere along the way I lost bits and pieces of it. As much as it pains me to admit it, I’m a no-sabo kid—an advanced one, but still! I provide therapy in English, Spanish, and everything in between (yes, Spanglish included!). Sometimes the feeling comes out in English, sometimes solo se puede decir en español, and sometimes both languages show up in the same sentence. All of it is welcome.
My Approach
My experiences with language, culture, family, education, socioeconomic status, race, community, and immigration have shaped how I understand people and mental health. They’ve also taught me that our struggles don’t happen in isolation. Our identities, relationships, communities, and the larger systems we navigate can influence how we understand ourselves, relate to others, and move through the world. Because of this, I approach therapy with curiosity, cultural humility, and an awareness of how my own identities and perspectives shape the way I show up in our work together.
My approach is person-centered, collaborative, culturally responsive, and informed by decolonial and anti-oppressive perspectives. I believe you are the expert on your own lived experience, so therapy isn’t about me telling you who you should be or how you should live. Instead, we’ll get curious together about the experiences, relationships, identities, and patterns that have shaped you. I also draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Relational-Cultural Therapy, which can help us explore difficult thoughts and emotions, clarify what matters most to you, understand patterns within your relationships, and consider how culture, context, and power have influenced your experiences.
I don’t expect you to fit into one particular therapeutic approach; I adapt the work to fit you. Together, we can deepen your understanding of yourself, reconnect with parts of you that may have gotten lost along the way, and recognize the strengths you already carry. You deserve a therapy space where all the different parts of you can show up, as we explore what healing, connection, growth, and a life that feels authentically yours might look like.

Outside of Work...
Outside of work, you’ll probably find me at a coffee shop with a specialty iced oat milk latte in hand, or at the movies pretending I’m definitely not going to cry. At home, I’m usually at my sewing machine, repotting my ever-growing plant collection, building a LEGO set, blasting Karol G, or catching up with family and friends on FaceTime. Basically, if I’m not out getting a little treat, I’m probably at home making something, building something, singing along to something, or talking to someone I love.
