Dr. Edward "Ed" Delgado-Romero, Ph.D.
Licensed Psychologist
Pronouns: He/Him/El

Positionality: I’m the son of Colombian immigrants and proudly identify as a bilingual, cis-het Latinx man. In this stage of life, I’m embracing new aspects of my identity as an older adult and as someone who is hard of hearing—both of which continue to shape how I move through the world.
My Background & Approach:
Hi, I’m Dr. Ed Delgado-Romero —psychologist, father, professor, and lifelong advocate for social justice in higher education and mental health.

For nearly 30 years, I’ve dedicated my career to breaking down barriers—especially for those who’ve been marginalized, dismissed, or treated as “other.” Whether in my work as a counseling center psychologist, a university professor, or a mentor to the next generation of culturally responsive therapists, my passion has remained the same: to help people feel seen, supported, and empowered in spaces that haven’t always welcomed them.

In therapy, I believe that a healthy process leads to healthy outcomes. It can be hard to thrive when you’re constantly navigating invalidating or oppressive environments. I work alongside my clients to help them reconnect with their sense of purpose, rediscover inspiration, and reclaim their idealism—even when cynicism or burnout starts to creep in.

I also believe deeply in the transformative power of therapy because I’ve experienced it myself. Like many, I hesitated to ask for help at first, but the support of trusted therapists truly changed my life. That’s why I bring warmth, honesty, and authenticity into the room. I understand the stigma some folks carry about therapy, and I honor the strength it takes to show up. I’m continually inspired by my clients’ resilience, insight, and creativity.

In sessions, I’m direct yet compassionate, reflective yet grounded. My goal is to offer a space where you feel both supported and gently challenged—to grow into the version of yourself you’ve been striving toward, even when the world tries to hold you back.

Theoretical & Clinical Orientation:
I bring years of clinical expertise to the therapy room—but I also believe that you are the expert on your own life. Therapy works best when we combine our strengths in service of your growth. While I may help lead the way at first, my goal is for you to feel safe, empowered, and confident in navigating life beyond our sessions.
I’m an active and engaged therapist. I listen closely, offer reflections, and guide with intention. I see the therapeutic relationship as the foundation for change and invest in building a space that’s authentic, supportive, and transformative.
As someone raised in the U.S. within the Latinx community, I hold both individualistic and collectivist values. That means I value autonomy and personal agency—but also community, interconnection, and presence. These shape how I show up in the work and the healing tools I use.
My training is grounded in psychodynamic, interpersonal, and humanistic models, and enriched by multicultural, liberatory, and anti-racist frameworks. I also integrate DBT, narrative therapy, and creative approaches tailored to each client’s needs.
A core focus of my work is helping clients unlearn internalized oppression, colonial narratives, and stereotypes that limit self-expression. I believe healing begins in the present moment. While we honor the past and future, true transformation happens when we can be fully here, now.
