At the Aguirre Center for Inclusive Psychotherapy, we believe that healing can only happen when people feel seen, valued, and safe to be their authentic selves. In today’s diverse and interconnected world, creating truly inclusive spaces is not just important—it’s essential.
When therapy environments foster belonging and affirmation, they give people permission to speak their truths, share their vulnerabilities, and explore their identities without fear of judgment. For us, inclusive therapy is about more than offering services; it’s about building relationships rooted in trust, respect, and cultural humility.
Our Approach to Inclusive Therapy
Inclusive therapy at the Aguirre Center means meeting each client where they are—honoring their cultural background, lived experiences, and personal identities. This approach is especially vital for members of marginalized communities, who often face systemic barriers, stigma, or discrimination when seeking help.
The reality is clear: according to the American Psychological Association, Black, Latinx, and other marginalized groups are significantly less likely to receive mental health services compared to their white counterparts. Discrimination, economic barriers, and cultural stigma all play a role. That’s why we have committed ourselves to creating a space where those barriers are challenged, and care is designed to be culturally responsive and affirming.
How We Create Inclusive Spaces
1. Culturally Responsive Care
Our therapists engage in ongoing training in cultural humility and anti-oppressive frameworks. We explore our own biases and actively learn about the cultural values, traditions, and lived experiences of the communities we serve.
2. Safe and Affirming Environments
From the first phone call to the therapy room, our goal is to communicate that all of you is welcome here. Our office décor, literature, and signage reflect the diversity of the people we serve, and our language—whether in English or Spanish—is affirming, respectful, and accessible.
3. Listening and Adapting
We invite client feedback and remain open to adjusting how we work. This ensures that our services continue to meet the evolving needs of our clients and communities.
4. Community Collaboration
We partner with local organizations, grassroots leaders, and advocacy groups to stay connected to community needs. These relationships help us create resources, host workshops, and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.
5. Offering Diverse Paths to Healing
Healing doesn’t look the same for everyone. In addition to talk therapy, we offer approaches that integrate creativity, mindfulness, and somatic awareness, so clients can choose what resonates most for them.
Why This Matters
Inclusion is not a one-time initiative—it’s a lifelong commitment. It requires curiosity, humility, and the willingness to grow alongside our clients and communities. By integrating awareness, advocacy, and culturally affirming practices, we can help dismantle the systemic barriers that prevent people from accessing quality mental health care.
At the Aguirre Center for Inclusive Psychotherapy, our mission is to ensure that every client—whether they are Latinx, Black, LGBTQIA+, an immigrant, or hold other marginalized identities—feels welcomed, understood, and empowered in their healing journey.
